On mesurera la glace de l?Arctique

Des chercheurs britanniques viennent de quitter Londres pour une expédition dans l'Arctique, leur mission consistant à mesurer l'épaisseur de la banquise autour du Pôle Nord.

Pendant trois mois, ils vont parcourir une distance de quelque 1000 kilomètres pour mesurer également les épaisseurs de neige et prendre des échantillons d'eau.

Les scientifiques sont munis d'un équipement qui leur permettra de transmettre les données recueillies à la Postgraduate Naval School de Montery en Californie, explique une dépêche sur le site Internet de l'organisme.

L'objectif ultime est de tenter de réussir à prévoir le rythme de la fonte de la banquise arctique provoquée par le phénomène des changements climatiques.
